Pilar Díaz, Deputy Councillor for International Relations of the Barcelona Provincial Council (Spain)
Pilar Díaz has recently been appointed as Deputy Councillor for International Relations of the Barcelona Provincial Council and she is the Mayoress of Esplugues de Llobregat since 2006, a city of almost 50,000 inhabitants in the metropolitan area of Barcelona (ES). In the course of her political life, Ms Diaz has been appointed, among other responsibilities, Vice president of the Modernisation and Quality Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP); President of ASPROSEAT PROA Foundation for the promotion and management of comprehensive services and support for the quality of life of people with special needs; President of the Women's Image Observatory of the Spanish Institute of Women in charge of the analysis of women representation in advertising and the media; and Vice president of Localret, consortium formed by the local Catalan administrations to improve the action of local governments in the impulse of the information society.
PhD in Telecommunication Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Ms Diaz combines her political commitments with teaching activity in Signal Theory and Communications at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, where she has been a university lecturer and doctoral advisor since 1995. She has also published multiple papers and co-authored technical books, and has often participated as a speaker at national and international conferences related to mobile communications. Ms Diaz is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Italian.
